Lay down in court

PA Dunedin A woman remained lying on the floor throughout her appearance in the District Court at Dunedin yesterday. Patricia Ann Jennings, aged 33, unemployed, of no fixed abode, had to be dragged from the holding cells into the courtroom, and after her appearance she had also to 'be dragged from the Court.

One of the presiding Justices of the Peace said there was no point in trying to get the woman into the dock.

Jennings was facing a charge of disorderly behaviour for which she was arrested on Monday night.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant John Bisset, said the defendant had been causing trouble to the police and social services. Justices of the Peace Mr Alan Cochrane and Mr Bob Harley remanded Jennings on bail until Friday, but said she should

seek medical treatment, However, Jennings indicated in strong language that she would not be appearing, and later abused the Justices as they were leaving when the Court adjourned. After discussions between Sergeant Bisset and the Justices, Jennings was remanded in custody. She is to appear again today.
