Jury trial on drug charge
Trial by jury was elected by a man facing charges of manufacturing cannabis oil, and cultivating cannabis. ' > Brian Robert Stewart, aged 29, a freezing worker (Mr P. B. McMenamin), who appeared before Judge Eraser in the .. District Court yesterday is also charged with possessing a cannabis preparation, and cannabis plant, for sale or supply, and unlawfully possessing a sawn-off shotgun. Police allege that all the offences took place on September 27. He was remanded in custody to December. 2 for depositions to be REPORT WANTED A psychiatric report is to be obtained on a man facing firearm charges relating to a domestic incident at Rakaia on Saturday. Warren Allan Te Amo, aged 29, a sickness beneficiary, was remanded in custody to October 20 to enable this to be carried out. He was held in custody overnight on Monday for examination by a police doctor. Te Amo is charged with ■
discharging a rifle near a house in Dunford Street without’ reasonable excuse; being in charge of a rifle while under the Influence of drink to such an extent as to be Incapable of controlling the rifle property; driving with an excess bloodalcohol level, driving while disqualified, and Intentionally damaging a telephone. When Te Amo first appeared on the charges on Monday he was granted interim suppression of his name. No fresh application was made yesterday. Bail sought by a duty solicitor, Mr W. Rosenberg, was oppressed by Sergeant R. Oabst. RECEIVING CHARGES Peter Allan Campbell who is alleged to have received property worth $5OOO was remanded on bail to October 13. Campbell, aged 17, a shoe maker, is alleged to have received four boxes of cigarettes, valued at $4600, the property of Freightways, Ltd, on October 6; and a leather jacket, valued at $4OO, the property of McAllisters Apparel, Ltd, on September 30.
