Buyers show little interest in deer

Buyers showed little interest in the 165 head of deer offered for sale in Christchurch yesterday. Bidding was slow and much of the stock was passed in. Buyers were selective and only interested in deer which showed breeding and weight growth. The yarding comprised 53 rising two-year hinds, 53 rising one-year hinds, 50 mixedage hinds and 9 rising oneyear stags.

A total of 35 rising twoyear hinds sold to $l3OO and averaged $llB, 25 rising oneyear hinds sold to $9OO and averaged $B9O, 27 mixed-aged hinds sold to $l5OO and averaged $1074, and nine rising one-year stags sold to $175 to average $146. The 96 animals sold made a total of $91,690. Gowan Hill Deer Farm, Waikari, had the best sale average of $ll2l from 18 rising two-year hinds.
