Koau Major to clash with Loch Rannoch

Koau Major’s clash with Loch Rannoch will highlight the Kuhtze Pace, the feature race at the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting today.

Unbeaten in each of their two starts this season, they dominate the first leg of the T.A.B. double.

Loch Rannoch has to concede Koau Major, a year his senior, 20 metres. That handicap assumes more significance when it is appreciated that the Gore track is a difficult one for handicapped horses and those mounting their challenges from well back in the running. Loch Rannoch beat a weak field of four-year-olds at Invercargill with some authority when resuming three weeks ago. Koau Major has earned horse of the day honours in two winning displays at Ascot Park. He is a top stayer in the making and well-suited to standing starts, according to his trainer-driver, Alan Scobie.

Loch Rannoch, on the other hand, has been a shade unpredictable from a stand, but Maurice Kerr, has been working to overcome this problem with his royally-bred son of Smooth Fella and former Cup class mare, Glen Moira.

Tempestuous, winner of two of his three starts this season, and On Patrol, unbeaten in her two four-year-old appearances, similarly dominate the second leg, the Tom Shirley Pace.
