BEST BETS
Friday GORE MINOIS (Race 4), B m, 4 yrs, by Son of Afella-Lissie, trained at Gore by D. Kerr, jun. Big run for sixth at Invercargill last week and before that was a promising second. MORRINSVILLE ASTRAL BELLE (Race 1), B m, 4 yrs, by Smooth Fella—Callisto, trained at Cambridge by Bob and Robert Mitchell. Overcame a rocky run to score impressively at Claudelands on September 7 after starting from the outside of the front row. Better drawn this time and should repeat. Saturday ASHBURTON GREAT PROVIDER (Race 2), B g, by Great ProviderAdios Nell, trained at Ashburton by G. A. Laing. Never emerged from the ruck in the Superstar Final after big run for second when resuming on first night. Should be untroubled to outstay this field of Cl performers. COUNTIES BEAU BIJOU (Race 3) B g, 3 yrs, by Noble Bijou-Mel-lanie, trained at Takanini by C. Jillings and R. Yuill. Bold first-up run for second at Te Rapa indicated he is about to confirm the promise he showed as a two-year-old. Should be too good for most of these. OTAKI POLICY (Race 8), Ch m, 5 yrs, by Catus-Syndare, trained at Awapuni by P. Hurdle. Has been racing better this season and could be ready to justify early promise. Ran on well for fifth at Awapuni last week and extra 400 m should yelp.
