Blovinski in race against time

By DAVID MCCARTHY On paper, Blovinski is in a race against time to be in the right trim to tackle the $200,000 Lion Brown New Zealand Cup but he set the clock back a bit with a fine trial yesterday morning and the trainer, Tom Lalor, remains optimistic he can beat the odds. Blovinski has not raced since going amiss in February and will not race until one of the upcoming Riccarton meetings. That leaves just six weeks for the son of Palatable 'to find his best form.

“He hasn’t done a lot of galloping but he’s done an awful lot of slow work

building up and there has been no problem with his leg at all,” Lalor said yesterday after Blovinski and Decree Nisi (Falvey) ran 1200 m on the plough in 1:20.5 the last 800 m in 52.4 s and the last 600 m in 38.55.

Blovinski looked to pull up sharply near the end of the gallop but Gary Williams reported that the gelding shied and was actually doing his work well.

Not many Orari runners were on display yesterday but Miss Behave (Beck) shaded Ruff (Reid) over 800 m in 51.25, home in 37.55.

Reproach (Davison) a member of John Bourne’s

team, which looks a picture, was too good for All Diamonds (Wadley) in 52.85, home in 38.15. Palmyrah Treat (Fallon) and Kiwi Alley (Pitman) went clear of Financial News with a sharp 600 m in 36.15.

Spangles (Davison) and Princess Perfection (Bent) were given solo sprints over 800 m the former coming the last 600 m in 37.3 s and the latter 37.55.

Ysatis (Rawlings) was held to 800 m in 52.4 s home in 37.65. Other gallops of interest were: 800 m: Krista (Woledge)

and Vitzburgh (Ritchie) 51.9 s on terms; Man of Honour (Reid) and Dash o’ Dublin (Moir) 54s (39.1) on terms; Donnatello (Bent) 51.5 s (37.85) solo; Starshooter (Mein) and Cochineal (Falvey) 52.6 s the latter showing out

600 m: Red Chiffon (Rawlings) and Our Desire (lightweight) 36.4 s on terms; Mr Magoo (Wilson) 38.1 solo; Corrie Doone (Davison) and Pavlova’s Beau (Mein) 37.9 together; Kaorou Brave (Caird) 39.85; Another Look (Moir) 39.35; Bamfylde (Mein) and Hurunui (Moir) 39.1 s on terms; Crestacat (Dowling) and Taiyo (Rawlings) 36s together; Hot Topic (McCann) shading My Belle (lightweight) and Coak and a er gelding (Mathie)
