A former national amateur golf champion, Stuart Reese, of Hamilton, now one of New Zealand’s leading professionals, in action at the Russley pro-am on Wenesday. Reese was below his best in the first of four $5000 pro-am events, carding a five-over-par round of 78. The tournament was won by the home course professional, David Hartshorne, whose recent good form continued with a 71 in “The Star”3ZB sponsored series. Hartshorne had six birdies, four on the homeward half. Chris Hollingworth, of Kerikeri, was runner-up on 72. Three players finished on 74: Geoff Pitman (Wellington), Bryan Watt (Nelson), and John Griffin (Hamilton). Mark Elley led the amateur field with a 72.
