Rs. This debate gave education an important profile. Education has now been elevated further with the portfolio of education going to the Prime Minister. Maybe the back-to-basics debate has missed the fundamental issue. Children, in becoming adults, need more than reading, writing and arithmetic. They need development of their artistic and creative abilities.
