Corso criticism
Sir,—For Corso to be attacked by the French Prime Minister for destabilising the republic was something of a novelty. To find the local anti-Soviet group in the field (September 18) is quite predictable. This organisation presumably resents State supervision in the Soviet Union while, seemingly, advocating this very treatment for Corso ("Government’s lack of vigilance”). In calling on our Government to apologise to the French this group appears to support France’s colonial policy. I wonder if it is happy with the record in Algeria where a million people were killed and many cases of torture by the French military were documented. Corso’s charitable and educational activities among the Kanaks are .quite within its brief for tax deductibility. — Yours, etc., PETER STOCKER. 22, 1987.
