Plea for cash

NZPA-AFP London The top seven rugby union nations will be asked by the International Board to forgo most of their share of the World Cup profits.

The board needs SUSSO,OOO ($NZ81,000) each from Australia, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales to help fund the setting-up of a fulltime secretariat here.

The board thought befor ethe competition that 5 cent of the profits would be sufficient to give themselves a more efficient administration and the various unions agreed to that. But John Kendall-Car-penter, the chairman of the 1.8.’s World Cup committee, said: “That

amount allocated to us doesn’t come to very much and we’ll need a pretty ; competent secretariat, including business management, if we’re going to run another World Cup.”

He felt that the seven would be able to afford to hand over SUSSO,OOO each and so'’ boost the SUSIOO,OOO ($NZ162,000) which is sb far earmarked for the board.

England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales should receive around $U562,500 ($NZ101,250) from the expected profits of SUS2 million (5NZ3.24 million), while (hosts Australia and New Zealand should get more than $U5550,000 ($NZ891,000) apiece.
