New nation-wide travel chain chooses to base in Christchurch
1987 has seen a highly volatile market in the travel industry within New Zealand, with intense competition between the major airlines. Recognising the opportunities as well as the challenge, a number of leading travel agents in the South Island have formed a nation-wide travel chain, based in Christchurch, called House of Travel.
House of Travel Holdings is a public unlisted company, the shareholders of which include owner-operators who number amongst the most successful agents in the travel industry. Warwick Beatson, (of Beatson and Richards Travel in Addington), Roger Thomas and Brian McCrory, (of McCrory and Thomas Travel, Limited in Riccarton Road), and a number of other owner-operators
who are highly successful operators provide the new travel group with considerable depth of experience. With the majority of the directors of the company being involved in the sale of travel the company is strong in the belief that the motivated owner-operator can provide a highly-efficient, successful travel operation for the benefit of clients. Travel consultants within House of Travel will provide their clients with cost and time effective services. A specialised travel accounting and word processing service called T.R.I.P.S. has been developed and is operating in most of the House of Travel outlets and this is now being extended to provide a computerised itinerary programme to ensure rapid processing of the clients’ travel needs.
