Airlines have created a market which is more buoyant than ever before. New Zealanders have always been enthusiastic travellers but isolation and the expense of travel in the past have meant that the “overseas experience” was often a six or twelve month working holiday and any subsequent travel on an irregular basis. There was a 30 per cent increase in travellers last year and this year it is estimated that one in five New Zealanders will travel overseas. This increased demand for travel reflects a trend which is expected to continue through 1988 and 1989.
