Sinbad show

. Rehearsals are in full swing for the Christchurch Theatre Workshop’s pantomime, “Sinbad,” to be staged at the Repertory Theatre from October 10-17.

The show will be directed by Brian Brodie, who was responsible for last year’s production of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”

Props makers are grappling with the problem of creating a giant bird which can fly Sinbad across stage, one of many special effects Brodie has devised.

An unusual feature of this year’s production is the special provision for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. For the evening performance on Monday, October 12, two “silent singers” will sign the dialogue and songs from positions alongside the stage. During all other performances they will take a normal part in the show, appearing in the chorus and crowd scenes.

It is also hoped that a loop system will be installed for the hard-of-hearing on October 12.
