Lawrence on piano
The Arts Centre’s Friday lunch-time recitalist this week is Christchurch pianist, Michael Lawrence. He will perform in the Great Hall on the Steinway piano in a 50 minute recital beginning at 1.10 p.m.
Michael Lawrence’s piano teachers include Ernest Empsom, Irene Lassen, lola Shelley, and Maurice Till. In both 1976 and 1977 he was runnerup in the Auckland Concerto Contest which led to his becoming a national
artist and accompanist for Radio New Zealand. The programme for the recital will be Beethoven, “Sonata in D Major Op.lo, No. 3,” Chopin, “Nocturne in D Flat 0p.27, No. 2,” and “Nocturne in C Minor 0p.48, No. 1,” and Ravel, “Sonatine.”
