Tower spokesman impassioned
“You are not being asked tonight to build a tower in Victoria Square but to allow a fair and just hearing to take place,” he said. The reasons for supporting the tower last month were as valid now, he said. To “dismantle the project tonight” could have repercussions throughout
business and the tourist industry. The council could not sit and let entrepreneurial ideas pass by. The tower could be the catalyst in promoting the city, helping maintain its economy and should be a part of the strategy to ensure Christchurch was not by-passed by the tourist market, Mr Tulloch said.
