The prototype of the EH101 helicopter, a multi-purpose military and civilian craft, is claimed to be the first helicopter to approach the safety and performance standards of a fixed-wing aircraft Made at the Westland Helicopter factory in Yeovil, south-west England, the aircraft was the result of an eightyear collaboration between Westland and the Italian company, Augusta. The British prototype will be the first of nine preproduction aircraft to take part in an extensive testing programme before the EH101 enters service in the early 1990s.
