Oil companies seek petrol price rise
PA Wellington Oil companies will ask the Ministry of Energy next week for a petrol price increase, according to a Shell Oil spokesman. Industry representatives were turned down when they applied to the then Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, in June for an increase of 6c to 10c a litre.
The companies are expected to base their case for an increase on rising international crude oil prices and the renewed strength of the dollar. Early this year oil companies were granted half of a 15c a litre increase application, taking the price of premium petrol to 92c a litre, and regular to 89c a litre.
