U.S. crime up
Serious crime in the United States rose to its highest level for five years in 1986, and one in every 20 Americans was a victim, said the F. 8.1. Serious crimes totalled 13.2 million in 1986, up 6 per cent from 1985 and the highest level since 1981. But only 66 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty, the lowest toll since 1968, when 64 died.—Washington.
