Top skier to visit
The 1985 world giant ski-ing champion, Markus Wasmeier, of West Germany, win arrive in New Zealand on Monday for 16 days training at Coronet Peak, Queenstown. Wasmeier’s visit to New Zealand was confirmed yesterday. The 24-year-old West German is one of his country’s big hopes for a medal In the XV Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada, in February
and New Zealand will be a starting point for his pre-Olymplc training. Coronet Peak will provide Wasmeier with a large variety of interesting terrain not available on his usual glacier summer training camps. During his visit he will be accompanied by his coach, masseur, ski technician and the promising young German skier, Christian Baer.
