Tokyo angers Peking
NZPA-Reuter Peking China accused Japan yesterday of straining relations between the two countries by refusing to intervene in a court decision granting ownership of a student dormitory in Japan to Taiwan. China has repeatedly accused Japan of failing to honour its obligations under international law by not intervening in a Japanese Court decision
last February that granted disputed ownership of a student dormitory in Kyoto to Taiwan. Tokyo recognises Peking as China’s sole legal Government but Chinese authorities see the court’s decision as signifying official recognition of Taiwan. The Japanese Government has said it has no authority to intervene in court processes.
