Belfast P.O. to hold displays

A free barbecue, displays and entertainment from schoolchildren, will be part of the Belfast Post Office’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations next month. The celebrations will be held on August 19, and will include displays from the Yaldhurst Transport Museum and Ferrymead Historic Park. At least five models of original Post Office vehicles, would be shown, said the day’s organiser, Mr John Garlick.

The models have been made from photographs, by Mr Gilbert Tavendale. All were built at the Yaldhurst museum. The celebrations . will begin at noon with a barbecue, and Belfast schoolchildren will sing 1930 s numbers/ Post Office staff will be dressed in 1930 s outfits.

“Nothing like this has been done before,” said Mr Garlick. “The staff wanted, to do it, and I took up the challenge.”
