Strong Cummings line-up
NZPA-AAP Melbourne Cups king, Bart Cummings, has 26 horses — his strongest line-up for years working towards this year’s Melbourne Cup and other feature races in the spring. The champion trainer, who has already won the Melbourne Cup a record seven times, plans a big assault on the spring carnival and the sAustl ,285,000 Cup at Flemington on November 3. Leading his assault on the Cup are last year’s Caulfield Cup winner, Mr Lomondy (56kg), Queensland Oaks winner, Round the World (51.5 kg VRC St Leger and SAJC Derby winner, Shark’s Fin (52kg), and the giant mare, Empire Rose (50kg), which ran an unlucky fifth in last year’s Melbourne Cup., Apart from his Cup horses, Cummings also has the brilliant performers, Campaign King and Broad Reach, to work on for the sprint and middle-distance events.
“Broad Reach will be suited to the’ mile races but if he shows stamina then we might run him in the Cox Plate,” he said.
