Candidate loses faith
PA Invercargill An Independent woman candidate standing in the
Wallace electorate at the General Election says she has lost faith in all the parties. Mrs Charmaine Smith, aged 31, is a mother of seven — “a parent alone.” She said she had never had any party affiliation, but believed that although there was some good in
both main parties, they had “let the people down.”
“Being a politician does not need any qualifications other than a concern for people,” she said. Mrs Smith said she also intended standing for the Gore Borough Council, and is unconcerned about standing both as a local and national politician.
