Step nearer marae
The Hornby Maori Club came a step nearer its goal of having a marae established in Kyle Park when Paparua County councillors last evening decided to set up a subcommittee to investigate the proposed site. Three councillors on the recreation and reserves committee were chosen to visit Kyle Park to discuss the proposal
with members of the marae sub-committee.
The marae proposal represented a five-year battle for the Hornby Maori Club, which first put the idea to the council in 1982.
More than $2OOO had since been raised for the marae, and grants remain available through the Maori . Affairs Departmeflt
