Licence declined
The Licensing Control Commission has declined to grant a good and entertainment licence to the Lancaster Park Hotel in Ferry Road.
The commission’s chairman said that the evidence presented did not satisfy the commission that the patrons would attend for entertainment or dining and not for the consumption of liquor.
This $15,000 French oval cabinet was stolen in a burglary of a Cox Street, Merivale, house on Monday. The cabinet stands about 75cm high and features three drawers with brass key escutcheons, extensive marquetry and cabriole legs. The main timbers are mahogany, rosewood and walnut. A Military Cross awarded in World War I was also stolen and is of
sentimental value to its owner. It is attached to a white ribbon with a purple stripe down the centre. Engraved on the back is either “Lieutenant M. H. O’Rorke” or “Lieutenant D. C. O’Rorke.” Detective Senior-Ser-geant Arthur Rodgers said the Military Cross was awarded to both the occupant’s father and uncle. It was uncertain which was stolen.
