Ombudsman approached
Wellington reporter The Ombudsman has been asked to recommend to the Government that it discontinue its programme of closing geothermal bores at Rotorua within a I.skm radius of Whakarewarewa. The approach has been made by Mr Paul East (Nat., Rotorua) who wants the Ombudsman to inves-
tigate the whole matter of the bore closings. Mr East said many elderly people had moved to Rotorua to live in the geothermal area and some had spent their life savings to buy property. Some of these people suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and required a constant source of heat to maintain their mobility.
