Mud bath for selector
PA Auckland The All Blacks’ lastminute training in Auckland hit a lighter note this week when the national selector, John Hart, got the “mud treatment.” The team decided that Mr Hart deserved a mud bath when, at the end of Wednesday’s run, he in-
sisted on a prolonged session with the tackling bags — an illustration of his concern that the backline will be a crucial factor tomorrow. Five All Blacks, Murray Pierce, Steve McDowell, Gary Whetton, Sean Fitzpatrick, and John Drake led Mr Hart’s dowsing in the muddiest part of a
greasy Ngataringa Naval Base Reserve. “It took me an hour in the shower to get cleaned up,” said Mr Hart. “Don’t worry, I’ve now got quite a list of guys who won’t be going to Japan (with the national team he will coach there in October).”
