Irish Boe comes through final trial in fine style

Special correspondent Palmerston North

Irish Boe came through his final trial in fine style at Awapuni yesterday

morning as he prepared for the Terrace Regency 10,000 at tomorrow’s Rangitikei Hunt meeting at Wanganui. Irish Boe, a good eater at the best of times, has not left an oat since his game win over Gatcombe’s Pride at Awapuni last week. Irish Boe will be ridden by Terry Kennedy, replacing Kim Clapperton who will be riding Angel Eyes at Te Rapa. Irish Boe steps up to a middle distance yet it should not worry him. He won over 2000 m on a heavy track at Woodville earlier this season.

Working on a heavy course proper Irish Boe was quickly into stride, running 1200 m in 1:24, the last 600 m in 42s and he finished with something in

hand. His stablemate Shagroon, the likely favourite for the Cranbrook Handicap at Wanganui, ran 800 m with Coghill in 56s the last 600 m in 41s. Shagroon is ready for a big race tomorrow. The New Plymouth visitor, Emotional Rescue, another in the Cranbrook, ran 600 m keenly in 39. She showed speed at Trentham before fading. Shane Keen rides her, but trainer Colleen Constable said that stablemate, Kiszader, a little sore after Levin on Wednesday, might not run tomorrow.

Modra Rua took 56s for 800 m the last 600 in 41s. He has run some useful

races and could show up in the Rosele Stud Handicap.

Amorous was let off with an easy 600 m in 40. Tony Allan, resuming this week, should get the best out of her in the Rosele Stud. Amorous has done plenty of work. Wynvari, disappointing first up last week, completed 600 m in 40s and might race at Hastings next week. Mr Lister, another bound for Hawke’s Bay, covered 800 m in 56.4 s the fine 600 in 41.4 s and Standing Ovation ran 600 m in 39.45, going freely all the way and handling the ground well. Terrific Pacific and Wilder ran 800 m in 58s the last 600 m in 435, and Zaribe required 1:2 for a slow 800 m, Gay Meld, recorded a similar time. This sister to Gaimoss showes promise and has won a trial in preparation for her debut in the Burgess Maiden. Prairie Rose completed 800 m in 58.55, the last 600 in 435.

Sophie’s Secret did not gallop, though there is notiiing wrong with her. She is accepted for both Rangitikei and Taumarunui and Noel Eales was to decide last evening where she will race, although he was “leaning towards” the Taumarunui Racing Club’s meeting. Tony Allan will ride her if she races at the Rangitikei Hunt Club’s meeting and Warwick Robinson if the choice is the Taumarunui Racing Club’s meeting.
