Ashburton workouts
Paul Young produced a hat-trick of winners on a small programme of trotting workouts at Ashburton yesterday. He won with Draconian and High Octane in races for unqualified horses, then gave the drive of Samson to Robert Cameron. He was last in th eight-horse field at the 800 m then looped the field, and hung on to win in slow time. However, off the front, the field came the last 800 m in 60s. It was Ramson’s second successive
win at workouts, though neither event was run at speed. Results (2400 m unqualified trot (six starters): Vai’s Acclaim, 30m, E. J. Dawson, 1; Proud Adios, 50m, 2; Rooney 3. Time: 3:40.6. Unqualified pace, heat one (five starters): Draconian, P. D. Young, 1, Tact Proof 2, Command Module 3. Time: 3:21.1. Heat two: High Octane, P. Young, 1; Avalon Skipper, 2; Seafield Flyer, 3. Time: 3:21.6. CO and faster pace (eight starters): Samson, 50m; R. M. Cameron, 1, Citizen Kane, 20m; 2, Quick Lobell, 3. Time: 4:20.1.
