Industrial action may disrupt concert

This evening’s Angels rock concert at the Town Hall might be disrupted by industrial action. The duty men and cleaners’ union, members of the Theatrical and Places of Amusement and ‘ Entertainment Union, are striking over the withdrawal of an $8 industrial allowance. The management of the Town Hall has discontinued the payment and the workers, who clean the hall and look after its security, are refusing to return to work and to discuss the legality of the payment unless it is reinstated. The union’s spokesman, Mr Andrew Campbell, said this evening’s concert might well be disrupted because of the workers’ actions. However, the manager of the Town Hall, Mr Ray Sleeman, said that the concert would not be affected. The hall hired outsiders to work many concerts. Cleaning of the hall after the concert was still a problem but he said that it was hoped a satisfactory conclusion to the dis- ' pute could be reached.
