Extra snow needed for opening
Skiers looking for snow might be in luck at Porter Heights ski-field later this week. The field received about 15cm of snow during the week-end and the ski-field’s manager, Mr Uli Dinsenbacher, said that only about 10cm more snow was needed before it opened. He expected the field would open on Thursday or Friday.
Numerous skiers had inquired about opening dates, he said, but it was important to make sure there was sufficient snow to last the whole season before opening. There was a danger of losing the snow if too many people used it too early. A spokesman for the Mount Hutt ski-field was not available last evening but its ski-field recorded information said there was a firm base of 15cm to 20cm but a further 25cm to 35cm of snow was required.
