Miss Slattery, who won the title in Auckland at the week-end, is completing a degree at Massey University and plans to teach primary school children next year. She will fly to Ireland in August to compete for the international title. The Rose of Tralee contest is the highlight of the week-long festival of Kerry, which is one of the largest annual festivals in Europe. Miss Slattery’s greatgrandfather was from Tipperary, in Ireland.
