College still clear
Lincoln College scored poorly in “The Press” Centennial Cup competition for the best and fairest team in the senior rugby competition when the thirteenth round was played on Saturday. But it is still 13 points clear of its nearest rival, which is now High School Old Boys. On Saturday Old Boys and University gained the best marks; 19 out of a possible 20. Five teams were awarded maximum scores for sportsmanship and adherence to the rules. Points gained on Saturday were:— University, sportsmanship 12, constructiveness 7, total 19; High School Old Boys, 12, 7, 19; Shirley, 12, 5, 17; Sydenham, 12, 5, 17; Christchurch, 11, 6,17; New Brighton, 12, 4, 16; Marist, 9, 7,16; Belfast, 11, 5, 16; Hornby, 10, 5,15; Albion, 10, 5,15; Lyttelton, 10, 5, 15; Burnside, 9,6, 15; Suburbs, 9,5, 14; Lincoln College, 8,5, 13; Linwood, 8, 5, 13; Merivale, 7,5, 12. Total points are:— Lincoln College 228, Old Boys 215, University and Hornby 212, Linwood and Christchurch 205, Albion and Burnside 204, Marist 203, Belfast and New Brighton 201, Shirley and Sydenham 195, Suburbs 186, Lyttelton 185, Merivale 184.
