That these jewels should be sacrificed on the altar of feminism, without a word of protest, is beyond belief. Sir Arthur QuillerCouch, "Q” to Helene Banff of “84 Charing Cross Road” and her guide and mentor in the fields of English literature, thought that the Bible “ ... as a literary achievement was one of the greatest in our language; with the possible exception of the complete works of Shakespeare, the very greatest ... ” To his students, he said “... my first piece of advice on reading the Bible is that you do it ... ” Yet he was a humanist. Cardinal Newman likened its style to the perfection of Euclid’s “Elements,” or a symphony of Beethoven; the living voice and music of the English language. That those to whom this great heritage has been specially entrusted — the hierarchy of the Anglican Church — should bid the voice be silent and still the music is an enormous tragedy. — Yours, etc., SUE HUNT.
