Work of wardens
Sir, —The Christchurch City Council is to be congratulated upon the appointment of 20 honorary Estuary wardens. Let us hope the council maintains a much closer liaison with these volunteers than the Drainage Board, whose interest in their river wardens I consider is virtually non-existent. In fairness,* however, it should be stated that, after a lapse of two years, a meeting was called just before the last local body elections when aspiring candidates greatly outnumbered those few wardens present.—Yours, etc., G. J. FERNANDEZ. June 25, 1987.
