was towed back to Eden, on the New South Wales south coast, by the fishing trawler Robin 11. He was jeered by fishermen as he was towed into port and then billed $B5OO by the skipper of Robin 11, Mr John Jarvis, who, said he had lost sAustlO,ooo ($12,100) “because of that idiot.” But Mr Elcock, aged 34, denied yesterday .that he' had.sought;emergency help , .from .' the fishermen.
“I just called to find out if someone was nearby — just in ease l needed help. I did not want to interrupt a trawler from fishing but when they turned up, I assumed they were giving me a hand. “The next thing I knew I was being towed back to port without much consultation taking place.
