Sealord expense
PA Wellington Sealord Products, Ltd, will spend $3 million to turn its new fishing fleet addition — the “Will Watch” — into one of the country’s leading fish processing factories, the company says. The six-week job includes installing a variety of conveyors and packaging equipment to enable the 1450 ton vessel to operate at sea as a full factory, the company’s general manager, Dr
Brian Rhoades, said. The company’s decision to refit the “Will Watch” in Nelson, rather than in Britain where it was built, was made because of the high standards of Nelson engineering companies and tradespeople, he said. The “Will Watch” will provide 80 further jobs when it resumes operating next month. It will also rank in size as one of the top 10 fish processing factories in New Zealand, according to Dr Rhoades.
