Drop in April import orders
PA Wellington The country’s import orders for April dropped slightly on the figures for March, but appear to be leveling out, according to the Department of Statistics. Orders for goods other than mineral fuels dropped 3 per cent on the March figure to $293 ■million. - « ;- ; Mineral fuel orders for • the three; months, to April ' dropped 31 per cent to $258 million compared to
the three months to March. ' The only two import classes not to decrease were crude materials which rose by 106.7 per cent between March and April and chemicals which were unchanged at $65.6 million. Orders for food and beverages, machinery and electrical equipment, iron, steel and non-ferrous metals are at their lowest levels; for, more than; a year. .» ■ ■
