U.K. elections

. Sir,—F. J. Bunting states (June 17) that the south of England is wealthy and the north impoverished. Have we not got a Similar situation here under a socialist Government, except that it is a booming Auckland and Wellington and an impoverished rest of New Zealand, particularly the provincial areas. I do not think the Labour Government gives a damn for the working class of New Zealand, its traditional supporters. At least Mrs Thatcher has brought inflation down and interest rates are at a reasonable level,' something we have yet to see here. I am not as ignorant of life and conditions in Britain as F. J. Bunting imagines. I was there in 1979 when Maggie Thatcher was first elected and again last year. Life in. Britain did not appear “dismal” as he suggests. If it was so bad I wonder he was able to tolerate two years of it as it appears he must have lived there for that period. Why did I come back to New Zealand? Because my family, friends and business interests are here and I love my country even if I do not love the Government.—Yours, etc., C. D. Mac DONALD. , June 21, 1987.
