Ngaio Street bus
Sir, — As a ratepayer, I am angered to read that the Transport Board is giving consideration to re-routing buses around Ngaio Street at a minimum cost of $30,000 — plus future road maintenance costs — despite the fact that the residents of the street have petitioned against this proposal, for a number of reasons. Is this bureaucracy going mad again? If such an expense is being contemplated, the ratepayers have the right to request a comprehensive passenger survey for the 65 buses which will daily be using a residential narrow street just a few minutes walk from Wilsons Road, recently upgraded to cope with heavy traffic. Let that survey be done with the co-opera-tion of the people involved, and without "secret bus rides” by the board members. (Perhaps they should just arrive unannounced, after dark, with blackened faces and wearing camouflage clothing.) — Yours, etc., (Mrs) C. DOREE. June 24, 1987.
