Budget
Sir, —Who does one believe, the Auditor-General or the. Minister of Finance? Have the books been balanced by a sell-out or a sell-off? This Budget will be known not for its doubtful economic profit but for its social cost Perhaps all factory owners, farming producers and the service industries should note that if profit is difficult to achieve this year, and if interest rates, exchange rates and inflation are too high, then sell the factories, machines, farms and equipment. If no local buyers can be found, doubtless overseas money will tempt the palm. Could the Beehive yet become a foreign trade post or embassy?—Yours, etc., WILLIAM RICHARDSON. June 18, 1987.
