Two sides to story

Sir,—The statement that “the (Zimbabwean) Government’s bureaucracy and anti-capitalist rhetoric discourage foreign investment needed to create jobs” in "Dark side of experiment’s success” (May 20) raises other issues. Investments exist for investors' profits more than people, jobs, products. Millions of millions of dollars search everywhere for high interest rates; over two billion, world wide, want loans, Third World countries, desperately needing development funds, are trapped by capitalism because interest is due from the first year; but few major developments make profits from the first year. Only rare minerals, small goods and foodstuffs like tea, coffee, sugar,

peanuts, etc., do. The foods the--West wants take land, labour, food and investment from the hungry peasants. In Africa they destroy the soil structure andpeople and animals starve. If 7 manufacturing is developed, profits are drained, to reduce debts, from the economy. That is , why Robert Mugabe, hates capb tallsm. Then, South Africa and others punish by withholding aid—Yours, etc., SUSAN TAYLOR. May 20, 1987.
