Audrey II competition

Wonderful prizes have been offered by the Regent cinema in connection with the opening of the musical-horror film, “Little Shop of Horrors,” tomorrow week.
This hilariously crazy film, based on Roger Corman’s Z-Grade cultmovie hit of 1960, features the man-eating plant, Audrey 11. At first, Audrey II starts off as a cute little thing, only about 15cm high, but as she develops her thirst for human blood, she grows into a man-eating, 4-metre-high monster.
The Regent has asked readers of any age to create their own versions of Audrey II — of any size. The picture to the right gives some idea of what a potplant-size Audrey II looks like, while a bigger version can be seen in the window of the Radar 2 re-
cord shop in the Crystal Plaza shopping arcade, between the Square and Gloucester Street.
People may also have some idea of what Audrey II looks like if they saw the TV special last Sunday evening on the making of “Little Shop of Horrors”; or saw. the movie at the recent film festival at the Westend. Contestants can make their Audrey Ils of any material — from cloth to plastic — and about the only thing these monsters have to be is the colour green. Entrants are asked to deliver their Audrey Ils at the Regent by 7 o’clock on the opening evening of Friday, May 29. Judging will then take place before the 8 o’clock screening. To make this wonderful competition worth while, the Regent is offering six prizes:
The first prize is a sixmonth Golden Pass for two to all Kerridge Odeon cinemas in Christchurch, plus an Audrey II money-box machine (pictured right), plus a copy of the “Little Shop of Horrors” long-playing record, donated by the Radar 2 record shop. The five runner-up prize-winners will also receive an Audrey II money-box machine, plus a double pass to see “Little Shop of Horrors.” The names of the winners will be published on this page on Thursday, June 4.
