Sir Robert defends criticism of Speaker
PA Wellington The former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, yesterday defended statements he has made about Parliament’s Speaker, Dr Wall, saying they were all facts. His comments, contained in a press statement issued in late February, referred to Dr Wall’s chairmanship as Speaker. The news media did not detail his comments at the time after officials said they could lead to privilege charges. Sir Robert’s statement
was referred to Parliament’s Privileges Committee, which has charged that some of the comments reflected on Dr Wall’s character and conduct as Speaker.' Other comments reflected on his impartiality, the committee has charged. Sir Robert yesterday gave a 10-page submission outlining his reasons for making his comments. He was asked only one question before the committee adjourned. It was to consider the case late yesterday.
