Rivers recede

Timaru reporter

Rain stopped falling in South Canterbury early yesterday, ending fears of possible flooding in the region. The Pareora and Waihao rivers reached moderate flood levels, according to Mr Frank Scarf, of the South Canterbury Catchment Board, but the rain stopped late on Tuesday and early yesterday and the rivers have been receding.

“There has been no serious damage, and all in all we escaped fairly lightly,” Mr Scarf said. "It could have been different if we had had the 100 mm forecast for overnight,” said Mr Scarf.
