Canterbury loses junior badminton crown
The Canterbury under-16 badminton team was unable to retain its South Island teams title in the face of a disciplined Southland assault at Invercargill. Southland took the championship decisively. Next in order of playing, were Otago and Canterbury. Southland 11. Nelson, and the West Coast. The Canterbury under-14 team was also outclassed by the Southlanders and had to
be content with a sixth placing. Scott Ronald, of Canterbury, played well, but lost the final of the individual championships to Raymond Key. of Otago, ’ 15-18. 14-18, in a closely fought match. Ronald's form was noticed by the New Zealand junior selectors, who named him in the South Island team to travel to the North Island in September.
