Canty fencing squad
The Canterbury Amateur Fencing Council has announced an under-23 men’s foil squad to compete against a yet-to-be-selected under-20 squad. The South Island foil titleholder. David Metcalfe, will captain the under-23 squad, which is otherwise light on experience. The under-20 squad will probably be led by Benoit Upton, aged 18. top seed for the provincial under-20 championships at Avonside Girls’ High School this week-
end. His team-mates will probably be Martin Taylor, aged 17,'Richard Bowles, aged 16. and Andrew Kell, aged 15. In the women's event Kathy Allen, aged 18, and Isabelle Perkins, aged 19. look set to continue their three-year competitive rivalry for the top foil spot. The men’s under-23 squad is: Metcalfe (United). Paul Wilson (University), Nisthith Mahanti (Australia Universities) and Murray Goodman (Waimairi Swords).
