PA Wellington Members of Parliament resumed debating the committee stages of the Labour Relations Bill when the House sat again at 9 a.m. yesterday under urgency. The House adjourned for lunch at 1 p.m. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, made a statement to Parliament on the military coup in Fiji when the House resumed at 2 p.m. Debate then continued on the committee stages of the Labour Relations Bill. The House adjourned for dinner at 6 p.m.
The debate continued when the House resumed after dinner at 7 p.m. The Labour Relations Bill passed its committee stages and was divided into the Labour Relations Bill; the Agricultural Work Amendment Bill, the Fire Service Amendment Bill (No. 3), the New Zealand Railways Corporation Amendment Bill, the State Services Conditions of Employment Amendment Bill (No. 2), the Waterfront Industry Commission Amendment Bill and the Minimum Wage Amendment Bill. Members then began debating a combined third reading of those bills. The debate on the third reading was interrupted when the House rose at midnight. The House will resume under urgency at 9 a.m. today.
