M.P. target of mugger?
PA Wellington The Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr Gair, thought he might be in line for a mugging in central Wellington last evening.
Mr Gair told NZPA he was walking back to Parliament, after attending a function in the central city, when he became aware that a pedestrian he was about to overtake was carrying a knife. Mr Gair said he quickly crossed the street, and after trying unsuccessfully to flag down a passing car from a security firm, reported the matter to the police at Parliament. The patrol cars failed to find the man, who, Mr Gair said, was carrying a white-handled kitchen knife behind his back.
“You just wonder whether you will be .a candidate for a mugging,” he said. in.
