The new qualifying system produced some outstanding last 800 m times at the Chertsey Trotting Club trials at Ashburton yesterday, with all events over 2400 m. Great Provider went 57.4 s in clearing out to win heat one for pacers in 3:13.8, and Able Yankee returned 58.7 s for the last 800 m when he went 3:18.7, a time which would not have qualified under the usual system. Results: Pacers’ qualifying, heat one: Great Provider, G. Laing 1, Elma Byrd 2, Wee Torpi 3. Time: 3:13.8. Heat two: Able Yankee, K. W. O’Reilly 1, Pride’s Messenger 2, Natural Gift 3. Time: 3:18.7. (Both winners qualify). Trotters qualifying (two starters): Yankee Illusion, R. Brosnan 1, Countess Kate 2. Time: 3:24. None qualified. Two-year-olds (three starters): Spangled Jaunt, K. O’Reilly 1, Fercano 2, Unique Away 3. Time: 3:28.3. Pacers’ qualifying, mobile (four starters): Gallienus, M. Cations 1, Mexicale, P. O'Reilly 2, Best of Friends 3. Time: 3:10.5, 3:10.8 (two qualified). Two-year-old mobile trot (three starters): October Pride, W. Stapleton 1, Perfect Du Jour 2, Light Wood 3. Time: 3:16.9. CO mobile: Bellhatten, A. Robb 1, Gentle Ware 2, The Admiral 3. Time: 3:5. Cl and faster mobile: Trusty Onedin, J. Hay 1, Mister Nat 2, Gilda James 3. Time: 3:9.4. CO pace, heat one: Touch Wood, L.
